MIDDLESBROUGH is a winner on the industrial front from London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics.
New jobs and millions of pounds of investment have been created as the result of a firm relocating to Middlesbrough after it had to move to make way for Olympic development in the capital.
MP Storage & Blending Ltd, who have been based at Middlesbrough’s Deepwater Wharf for more than 30 years have recently been acquired by national company, the Banner Chemicals Group.
The group has now also relocated its solvent storage and distribution depot to Middlesbrough.
Banner’s distribution base was in East London, but they had to find a new home when the two-acre site was acquired by the London Development Agency for the 2012 Olympics project.
The move has created a new solvent tank farm, with blending and filling operations. Banner has also acquired another three-acre site for a warehouse and distribution depot.
The development has created 25 new jobs.
In a ceremony at Boro’s Riverside Stadium yesterday, Middlesbrough Mayor Ray Mallon officially opened the new development before guests were bussed to the site for a tour.
Mr Mallon said it was “further proof Middlesbrough is open for business.”
NEPIC – The North East Process Industry Cluster, a network of 300 companies involved in chemical processing – provided expert advice to help in the move.
Chairman of Banner Chemicals Group, Mottie Kessler, said: “The relocation has gone very well thanks to a great team effort.”
